On McLaren models the gearbox control panel is prone to damage, and once this happens, you will no longer be able to switch gears via the controls.

This can be due to any of the following:

  • Water infiltration
  • Hardware damage

In those cases you should also check that BCM, SCUG and PCCU are working well as issues on one of these three modules can lead to misdiagnosing the issue.

If BCM or BCM wiring is bad, panel won't light up.
If SCUG data/hardware is bad, panel won't light up.
If PCCU hardware/software is bad, panel will light up but it won't allow you to change gears.
